Office of Research Administration

Mission Statement
To promote excellence in applied research

Agenda of the ORA:
To promote and support the development and execution of research ideas for the faculty, doctoral students, and our partners in the Social Work community locally, across the State of Alabama, regionally, nationally, and internationally.

Philosophy of the ORA:

The services and support offered by the ORA are developed based on the needs of the researcher interacting with UA and Social Work policies. The ORA exists to promote the vision of all  its stakeholders, and holds that all ideas are treated equally.

Social work research is focused on:
   • Creating knowledge that adds to our ability to impact social issues
   • Supporting social change on behalf of vulnerable and/or oppressed populations
   • Building knowledge of the complete systems of the “real world”

Current ORA Initiatives:
   • Partnership Institute. Creating mutually beneficial relationships among social work faculty,      community, stakeholders, and funders.
   • White papers. Assisting in the development of brief research statements to support
      implementation of new ideas.
   • Research on education. Supporting efforts to develop evidence to evaluate innovations in
     education.
   • Work groups. Facilitating research collaborations among individuals with common interests
